History: Here!
Personality:
My hero was a TV character. With that ridiculous looking... red, horned cap on his head... dripping with sweat, he appeared before me. Even though I was a demon, that hero... came to rescue me.
The SKET Dan is a group composed of three people: the leader, the strength, and the intellect. Though one might not guess just by looking, Himeko happens to the brawn of the bunch. Her demeanor is generally that of a polite, well-mannered girl. She has a soft spot for cute things and people in trouble, the latter trait shared amongst all three members, but she also possesses a sharp tongue that might seem counterproductive to her desire to help others. She's used to meeting eccentric characters, and she has a natural ability to comment on anything or anyone that seems out of place for any reason. Her reactions rival those of pro comedy teams as she's even faced one before on television. On the one hand, it's simply that she can't help herself from releasing these snap judgments, but there's always the added benefit of relieving a tense scene with a gag. It's a natural response for her to try to lighten the mood in this way, though she can normally discern the need for a more serious and sympathetic response.
Most people don't stop to consider her likeness to the legend of Onihime, the Demon Princess. Over the past few years, stories of Onihime had spread throughout Tokyo. A delinquent with incredible strength, she was constantly involved in fights. Blonde hair, a cigarette in her mouth, and swings a baseball bat; that was the description that seemed to spread. The truth is that it wasn't a cigarette but the stick of a lollipop, and the baseball bat was actually a field hockey stick. Himeko would know, considering that she is, in fact, that rumored delinquent. Thanks to this part of her past, she is seen as the embodiment of the same symbols that her former yanki self represented: strength and violence. As time passes, she tries more and more to suppress her anger before it leads to causing more pain. She still operates on 'swing first and ask questions later,' but as she tries to distance herself from the legend, she's getting better with firing warning shots.
She didn't start out that way, though. As people like to say, monsters aren't born but created. Back in middle school, her family moved from Osaka to Tokyo on account of her father's job. While she had trouble fitting in at school, she made one very dear friend who opened the door for all sorts of encounters, and she finally felt able to enjoy her new home. She joined the field hockey team on a whim, and that's where they met. But one day, her friend started to act distant as though plagued by a worry she couldn't voice, and soon, Himeko happened to see her around town with the school's most notorious bully. Worried, she confronts her friend and encourages her to stand up against them, even tagging along with her as both moral and physical support. She takes a number of hits against the large group of delinquents before her friend comes forth with a confession: she wasn't being bullied by them at all. Rather, she was their boss, and she paid them money to keep her safe so that she could live a peaceful, uneventful school life. As a prior victim of bullying, she found that to be her best option. However, for Himeko, this meant having her friendship betrayed, and the anger and hurt transformed her at once. Grabbing a field hockey stick, she took out the bullies, every single one of them. The first word uttered by her former friend was "demon."
From there, her life was completely changed. The teachers saw her as a delinquent, and the students saw her as a threat. Knowing she couldn't convince them otherwise, she merely played the part. Thugs from other schools, other cities, from all over would appear before her to challenge her, hoping to take her down and earn themselves some street cred. Guys and girls alike would jump her, but they'd all leave the same way: utterly defeated. Because of this, middle school was hell, and for high school, she transferred as far away as she possibly could, somewhere she hoped that her legend might not precede her. This landed her at Kaimei Academy, the place where she was supposed to peacefully live out her inconsequential high school life. Even though she rejected repeated attempts at friendship from not one but two persistent people, she started to soften towards them. One of them was Fujisaki Yuusuke, an incredibly weird guy who shared an interest in the same cartoon as Himeko. The other was Takahashi Chiaki, star player of the softball team who was eager to recruit her after witnessing her athletic ability during gym class. The latter held many similarities to Himeko's previous best friend, up to the point where she one day starts to act very unlike herself. When pressed for information, she explains an accidental situation with some thugs who were now demanding money from her. Having been burned in the past, Himeko refused to step in personally, but she changed her mind when Fujisaki reprimanded her for it, telling her that she was too afraid to let herself be happy and that no betrayal is worse than abandoning a friend who truly needs the help. Those words brought back her former principles, allowing her to unleash her full potential as Onihime to bring down the thugs, even though it meant exposing her identity that she had tried so desperately to conceal. Certain that she'd be shunned again after the fact, instead Fujisaki invites her to join a club he's been eager to create: a school support club meant to help out any student in need, the SKET Dan.
So, in joining, she inherited the nickname "Himeko," an even cuter form of her girly name, which means that she likes it. She's always felt at odds with her name considering her tomboyish nature, but today she's a person who feels comfortable to embrace both sides of her personality. Her experiences have also reinforced her feelings on friendship and the importance of helping others. The cartoon that both she and Fujisaki admired was about a hero, one that he seems to be made manifest. She also forged her ideals in a similar manner, believing that you don't need a reason to help someone in need. So following the example set down by their leader, she is quick to offer her services free of charge so long as the cause is right. Bullying is a specifically sore subject for her, and she tends to take out her frustrations on perpetrators of this more harshly. She's aware of her own strength, and she believes that those with power should protect those who lack it. Because of this hierarchy, she's been accused of looking down on the weak, but after all she's been through, she doesn't care about how others perceive her actions so long as she does what's right.
The ordeals that she went through made her stronger in a variety of ways. While she was once more timid and nervous about first impressions, even consciously switching her dialect from Osakan to standard Japanese when she transferred middle schools, details like that don't seem to bother her nowadays. She always had the potential to be outgoing, easily opening up to others when given a chance, but now she's comfortable enough with herself to approach others effortlessly. This is largely thanks to her personal support group, the best friends she could ever ask for, who always keep her grounded when she starts to doubt herself. They rely on her strength, giving her reassurance that it's a gift and not a curse, but even as much as she's grown, she still can't admit her true feelings towards them or towards anyone. Seeing her domineering personality in action, one would hardly guess that she's harboring the delicate feelings of an average teenage girl. The truth is that she's crazy in love with Fujisaki, something obvious to everyone around them (except for oblivious Fujisaki of course, as it goes), but any attempts to express this emotion tend to end terribly. For starters, she has an embarrassment reflex that unfortunately borrows her physical strength, often causing her to attack someone should they cross the line into her comfort zone. This does, however, depend on the perceived sincerity of the "attack." If it's a joke or even an accident, the offender may be in for some pain. But when met with genuine affection, her brain short-circuits to the point that she's merely at a loss for words, much less for how to react. All things considered, something like romance could be the legendary Onihime's fatal flaw.
She's rough around the edges in general, always having that boyish atmosphere about her that makes it more difficult to face her own feminine side. Since she believes her fighting capabilities to be her one and only talent, she's quick to act upon her strength. This includes friendly violence, or more accurately, slapstick. Potential targets of this are more likely to be close friends, but depending on the situation, anyone is fair game. Boys are often easier to hit than girls because, after all, she does abide by the hierarchy of strength, and as a girl, other girls are generally considered automatic allies. That said, there are still a number of people who fear her for her past and even for her present situation. She still gets into fights when necessary, and her results still match the horror stories of legend. But as she is now, she's mostly trying to move on from this image. After deciding long and hard on what to do with her future, she's decided to aim for becoming a teacher. Because of this, she knows that she needs to put more of an emphasis on her studies, and so she starts behaving what might be considered to those who have known her until now as "uncharacteristic." She's still strong, of course, but she's looking to increase that strength in the areas where she's personally been weak. Perhaps, one day, that may also include the capability to face her own feelings.
Abilities: She's a competent fighter! This is greatly enhanced when she has her weapon of choice, her field hockey stick, with her, and only then can she fight to her true potential. She's not completely useless otherwise, but it evens the odds much better when she's unarmed. Substitute weapons may assist just a little, but nothing compares to the original.
On top of this, her commentary skills are top notch, ready to react to any situation!
